Carolina Panthers Notes, Quotes 2008-07-12
--Since John Fox was named head coach in 2002, the Panthers ranks second in the NFL in takeaways with 191, which ranks only behind the Baltimore Ravens (195).

Beginning with their inaugural season in 1995, no team has produced more takeaways than the Panthers. Over the span, the Panthers have accumulated 424 turnovers, 14 more than the next closest team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

--The Panthers have never been a great home team under Fox. In fact, they actually have a better record on the road. In six seasons under Fox, the Panthers are just 24-24 at home; they are 27-21 on the road.

--Many forget just how screwed up the Panthers' quarterback situation was last year. After Jake Delhomme went down in Week 3, three other quarterbacks started at least three games.

David Carr started in Week 4 and Week 5 until injuring his back and giving way to Vinny Testaverde, who made his first start just four days after being signed. Testaverde started two games but then his Achilles acted up and the team went back to Carr for a game at Tennessee.

That was atrocious and Testaverde started the next two weeks before his body tightened up. Carr started his final game against New Orleans in Week 11 and then it was back to Testaverde for two more weeks until he couldn't go anymore.

After that, the Panthers went three weeks with Matt Moore at the helm. By the end, John Fox was ready to pull out any remaining gray hairs.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Most of us in the rookie class were born in 1985, so old football to us was Emmitt Smith and Dan Marino. To back to the beginning of football and see what it was all about, how it started, that was very important. Our knowledge was not where it where it should be and I think the trip helped. Walking out of there you learn so much and you have a better appreciation for those who helped build the game into what it is today." -- Panthers LB Dan Connor, who visited the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, early this year with his rookie teammates.
