--One of the reasons the Panthers brought in Muhsin Muhammad is to aid the development of Dwayne Jarrett, a second-round pick in 2007 who struggled as a rookie.
But Muhammad said his role is more than that.
"And I'm not just out here to teach people," Muhammad said "I come out here and make plays myself and I think I still play this game at a high level. As long as I come out here and school 25 and 26-year-olds all day long I will be out here on the field."
--When asked about his diet which helped him lose an untold amount of weight and get him back into football shape, Panthers guard Toniu Fonoti said, "I just cut everything in half. Instead of full plate, I ate half a plate. But it's now part of a lifestyle for me. It's second nature to me."
Fonoti wouldn't elaborate on what caused his weight to explode back when he was with San Diego, except to say it was "just life."
--There are plenty of folks around the Panthers who believe Richard Marshall will be starting over Ken Lucas when the NFL regular season gets into full swing.
--The Panthers remain optimistic that first-round draft pick Jonathan Stewart will be ready for training camp. Stewart is coming off turf toe surgery and did not participate in any of the team's minicamps. That means when the Panthers begin practice July 26 it will be Stewart's first as a Panther. Nonetheless he's expected to have a major role this year splitting reps with DeAngelo Williams at running back and returning kickoffs.
