Carolina Panthers News

A year after the Browns went 10-6, the season that was supposed to hold such promise now circles the drain. With his team sporting an ugly 4-7 record, coach Romeo Crennel faces speculation that he will be fired at season's end. Losing starting quarterback Brady Quinn for the rest of the regular season with a broken finger won't help. But no one can say Crennel doesn't understand the situation he's in. "If we win, that improves my chances. If we don't, then that hurts my chances," Crennel told The Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Saints at Buccaneers

* 1 p.m.

The NFC South got a lot tighter, from top to bottom, after the Saints demolished the Packers on Monday night. That victory left everybody in the division with an over-.500 record. Only two games separate first place (the Buccaneers and Panthers are tied at 8-3) and last place (the Saints stand alone at 6-5). Another Saints victory would make the division race even more interesting.

Giants at Redskins

* 1 p.m.

The Giants (10-1) were better than the Redskins (7-4) in the NFL season opener on Sept. 4, and nothing has changed in the two months since. While the Giants appear a lock for a playoff spot, the Redskins are in a major wild-card battle with the Falcons, Cowboys and whoever drops out of the NFC South lead. Only two will secure wild-card berths, so the Redskins could really use an upset at home.

Steelers at Patriots

* 4:15 p.m.

It wouldn't have been a stretch to believe the Patriots (7-4) would contend without the injured Tom Brady. But it might have been a little far-fetched to believe the Patriots would be doing it with Matt Cassel throwing for 400 yards in consecutive weeks. Will he be able to put up those numbers against the Steelers (8-3), who have held consecutive opponents to 10 points?

Bears at Vikings

* 8:15 p.m.

The NFC North cries out for somebody to take charge. These teams share the lead despite being just 6-5. Nevertheless, they also played one of the season's most exciting games on Oct. 19, when the Bears held on for a 48-41 victory at Soldier Field. The Vikings can ill afford to allow the Bears a sweep. The one-game lead that would result, combined with the head-to-head tiebreaker, might be too much to overcome.

Game; Comment

49ers at Bills; Both have lost four of five, but the 49ers weren't contenders like the Bills were.

Ravens at Bengals; Ravens slammed Donovan McNabb last week; how will Bengals' Ryan Fitzpatrick fare?

Colts at Browns; Peyton Manning has had a hot November, and as he goes, so go the fortunes of the Colts.

Panthers at Packers; Both gave up at least 45 points last week and know how hard it is to win that way.

Dolphins at Rams; Rams' Steven Jackson set to return, but QB Marc Bulger has third concussion since '05.

Broncos at Jets; Jets are one of the AFC's best because of run defense, which helped hand Titans first loss.

Chiefs at Raiders; Chiefs are trying to become first NFL team to win six in a row on Raiders' home turf.

Jaguars at Texans (Monday); Relatives might be happy to see this in prime time, but neither team is going anywhere.
